On May 19, 2020, Hamid Yazdan Panah, attorney with Immigrant Defense Advocates, spoke to the California State Assembly's Public Safety Committee about the importance of AB-3228, a bill to hold all private detention facilities in California liable for violating their government contracts. In the hearing, Hamid read from a letter that 43 of our friends wrote to elected officials after the death of their friend, Carlos Ernesto Escobar Mejía.
