Here's how your gift can help:

  • Provide funds for detained refugees and asylum-seeker to purchase critical items like soap, medical supplies, and food from Commissary.

  • Pay for phone calls to lawyers, family, and DR organizers.

  • Cover the cost of shelter, food, and transportation for recently-released migrants while they get to their destination and fight their case from the outside.

Give dignity. Give hope. Give now.

As a grassroots collective of local volunteers, your donation goes directly to the people that need it—refugees and asylum-seekers imprisoned in or recently released from the Otay Mesa Detention Center (OMDC). For an example of how your donation will be used, please see the wishlist below.

DR Wishlist

Refugees and asylum-seekers who are imprisoned in OMDC can purchase items from the OMDC Commissary, but these items are expensive and people earn extremely low wages for their hard work (often less than $1.50 per day). Your gift helps us replenish people's commissary accounts and, in turn, improve their sense of dignity, humanity, and agency. It also helps us keep people safe after they've been released.
