DETENTION RESISTANCE
Our mission is to end detention and make visible the human rights abuses at migrant prisons, with a focus on closing the Otay Mesa Detention Center (OMDC).
We work in accompaniment with those most impacted to abolish carceral logics and displace systems of domination. We are driven to create another world, one based on nurturing and cultivating alternative ways of relating to one another within networks of community support.

OUR WORK

DETAINEE DIRECT SUPPORT
The Detainee Direct Support committee creates authentic, supportive relationships with migrants in the Otay Mesa Detention Center through letters, phone calls and visitations. The committee also organizes and facilitates transitional post-release physical support.
LOCAL POWER BUILDING
People who were formerly detained and are now at liberty to organize more freely are working to support themselves and those who are still in detention. This committee supports those local people in their work and organization.
OUTREACH & COMMUNICATION
This committee researches local, state and federal detention policies, amplifies detainees voices and organizes actions when needed. In case of need, this committee will put feet on the ground for Rapid Response and create temporary committees to plan events.

GET INVOLVED
We depend on deep, supportive relationships with the people the state has criminalized as the basis of our organizing. Visit our volunteer form to register as a volunteer, or use the contact form below to let us know how you would like to assist us in our work.
